  5. If this is your first look at the world of SSTV then take the time to read all 
  6. the doc included with this MSCAN shareware package. Also read the manual very 
  7. carefully and don't be afraid to ask your fellow SSTV'ers, your local MSCAN 
  8. agent, or me, for help. 
  9.  
  10. If you are already familiar with SSTV and are using one of the many other SSTV 
  11. programs then let me explain why you should consider using MSCAN. First of all 
  12. ask yourself what you expect from an SSTV program (and try to forget for a 
  13. moment what you are used to). Do you want to receive and transmit high 
  14. resolution pictures in as many colours as possible? Do you want noise to be 
  15. effectively suppressed? And when you are receiving a picture, do you want to 
  16. wait until it's finished or use that time to prepare your next picture? And 
  17. what about when you're actually transmitting, wait again or add some last-
  18. minute text to it, a small picture or perhaps save the picture you just 
  19. received? Talking about pictures, do you want your SSTV program only to accept 
  20. pictures with specific dimensions, or do you prefer it to scale ANY picture to 
  21. the appropriate size? What about digitizing pictures with your camera, isn't 
  22. that what SSTV is all about? How do you want to digitize your pictures? Off-
  23. line with a different program, or do you prefer live pictures you just made 
  24. while you were receiving (or transmitting) a picture?

  26. Every manufacturer of SSTV programs that are available today will tell you 
  27. their program is the best. Instead of taking their word, just ask yourself 
  28. what you want your SSTV program to be able to do (maybe I've just given you 
  29. some new ideas!) and I'm sure you will discover there is only one program that 
  30. will suit your needs: MSCAN!

  32. Ofcourse MSCAN has many more advantages than those I just mentioned. And it 
  33. also features all popular Fax modes. Don't be fooled by the new so-called high 
  34. res modes developed in the US. The rest of the world is already using colour 
  35. Fax for many years, and these modes are the only REAL alternative for SSTV if 
  36. you want higher resolution. And they are already compatible with many existing 
  37. programs! Do you want to see real high resolution? Try colour Fax 120 LPM IOC 
  38. 288!

  40. If you are not familiar with MSCAN then take your time to read the manual and 
  41. configure the program (MSCAN /c). By the way: MSCAN will only run on a true 
  42. colour video card, simply because 16.8 million colours is what you need to 
  43. transmit and receive high quality pictures. If you don't already have such a 
  44. card, buy one, you won't regret it! Have fun and as we Mscanners say: Happy
